Hello Readers,
Does this summer seem to be speeding by? How did that happen? Anyway, it’s been a busy and enjoyable summer and I want to share some of that with you here.
I hope the best of summer is yet to come for you. Make the most of it!

Book Review Lists
As you know, I write reviews of books I’ve enjoyed and these reviews are published on a website called Flashlight Worthy Books. If you haven’t checked it out yet, my newest book review list, “Great Cultural Books for the Beach . . . and Anywhere Else,” has some real gems. Just click on the title under the “Quick Links.” These books make me wish I wrote fiction!
Biography
Although my biography doesn’t really change, my “Favorite Things” list on that page changes every month. As it turns out, I like so many disparate things that I still haven’t run out of things to list after all this time. Look them over and see what you think. Then tell me!
Education
On the education front, although single-gender schools disappeared in the 70s when educators decided that such schools were sexist, did you know that there’s been a recent resurgence? And schools are trying a few other innovative approaches as well.
For example, some schools are opting to focus not on test preparation, but on the arts. And guess what — their standardized test scores rose! Plus, school districts in some major cities are experimenting with teachers running the schools! I really want to see them succeed.
And I would be remiss were I not to mention the outstanding accomplishment s of the boys at Chicago’s Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men, where every member of the inaugural class has been accepted to a four-year college! They make me proud to be an educator.
We discussed these issues in July’s weekly blogs. Why not stop by each week and join the August blog discussions.
Christian Living
Don’t you just love being around cheerful people? They spread a little sunshine everywhere they go. And since each of us gives a bit of ourselves as we interact with others every day, this month’s Christian Living article asks, “What Do You Give?”
I’d enjoy hearing your responses to this question, so please leave your comments at the bottom of the article.
Book Events
Finally, if you’re in the Atlanta area, stop by the Atlanta Black Book Expo at the Georgia International Convention Center on August 7. The first event of this kind in Atlanta, it promotes student literacy through its theme, “Going Back to School Strong.”
If you attend, look for me! I’ll be participating, with my book The Social Studies Helper.
